The 8 Dark Horses of Houston: Coming from behind and ready to disrupt

The 2021 World Table Tennis Championships Finals is in Houston next week, and amongst the favourites, previous winners and world number 1’s competing- there is a new breed of dark horses who are set to disrupt the event and shake things up.

We’ve done the hard work and found 8 players to look out for during #Houston21

Hina Hayata (JPN): Injury-free and in great form with her recent WTT win in Doha.

Shin Yubin (KOREA): Up and coming player but dangerous in any part of the draw.

Wang Yidi (CHN): Recent good form in Slovenia has her match-fit.

Hana Matelova (CZE): Has solid preparation and form. Hard to beat for anyone.

Liang Jingkun (CHN): Has won back-to-back WTT titles in Slovenia. Very confident.

Liam Pitchford (ENG): Has been knocking at the door in the second half of this year, and now has a solid number of matches under his belt. If he wins his early rounds, he’ll be like a freight train.

Darko Jorgic (SLO): Dangerous in any section of the draw. Has good form carrying from the Olympics and numerous WTT events since.

Anton Kallberg (SWE): Hasn’t had a lot of WTT tournaments this year but recent form is showing some danger. Can he keep momentum as he showed in the recent WTT events in Slovenia.
